5 Year Retrospective


UMass Boston’s IT Department, as highlighted in the five-year retrospective in IT Outcomes, stands out for its proactive and visionary approach. From navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic to the Cyber Resilience initiative, the department demonstrates a forward-looking ethos that fosters lasting innovations. The retrospective underscores that the IT Department doesn’t just solve problems but crafts legacies benefiting UMass Boston today and promising even brighter outcomes in the future.

IT Outcomes 2022

The fourth edition of IT Outcomes highlighted partnerships between IT and the UMass Boston community, focusing on opportunities, collaborations, and results. In 2022, under the theme “SimplicITy,” we enhanced recruitment and admissions, streamlined software access for students, and established our first network & security operations center. Looking ahead to 2023, our goal was to embody “One IT”—a collaborative, trusted partner providing secure, transformative IT services. Readers were invited to enjoy stories of how our efforts improved the lives of students, faculty, and staff.

IT Outcomes 2021

After nearly a year and a half of remote operations, 2021 was a year of “unITy” as we returned to campus. This edition of IT Outcomes reflected on our collective achievements, demonstrating how our IT team supported the community with resilience and collaboration. Highlights included the seamless transition back to in-person activities, showcasing our commitment to excellence. As we moved forward, we embraced the theme of “SimplicITy” for 2022, aiming for continuous improvement and greater trust in IT. Readers were encouraged to enjoy stories of how we advanced UMass Boston’s mission through people, process, and technology.

The 2020 issue of IT Outcomes highlighted UMass Boston’s IT team’s extraordinary response to COVID-19. Despite the abrupt shift to remote work, the team ensured business and instructional continuity through virtual meetings, electronic signatures, and innovative use of Immersive Reality. This issue celebrated their achievements and adaptability, showcasing stories of successful collaborations under the theme “Operation Divide & Conquer.” The IT staff’s dedication and creativity not only met but exceeded expectations, demonstrating their crucial role in supporting the university’s mission during unprecedented times.

The 2019 issue of IT Outcomes showcased the power of collaboration within UMass Boston’s IT team. By working together and with faculty and administrators, the IT staff provided exceptional service to students, faculty, and staff. The publication highlighted successful collaborations and the positive changes they brought about. As the new vice chancellor for IT and CIO, Raymond Lefebvre recognized the team’s strengths and talents, setting the stage for future success.
